JAL Group Discontinues Shortest Domestic Japan Route in 3Q24

JAL Group carrier Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC) this week unveiled its planned Northern summer 2024 season operation, which sees of the cancellation of Japan's shortest flight in terms of distance.
From 01AUG24, the airline will discontinue Minamidaito (南大東) – Kitadaito (北大東) sector, currently scheduled blocked time at 20 minutes over 12km (7.5 miles) distance. RAC operates following service with 50-seater Dash 8-Q400 COMBI aircraft.

Within the JAL Group, the shortest domestic flight is Kikaijima – Amamioshima, with blocked time time at 20 minutes, about 25km (16 mi), followed by Okinoerabu – Tokunoshima at 25 minutes, about 48km (30 mi). Both routes are operated by Japan Air Commuter (JAC).
